On your car it can be serious in that the turbo is usually made by KKK and if they over speed (as they easily can during over boost) the compressor wheel can disintegrate and throw oil and shrapnel through the charge air system. A flashing glow light does mean something really wrong has been detected and its safe guarding the engine similar to what new transport trucks do.
